Really depends case by case. A lot of fruits are in large part indigestible cellulose and water, but so are many vegetables. Glycemic index is a different matter, too. For instance, potatoes have a very high glycemic index, and so do carrots. Carrots have an incredibly high one, higher than most fruits. That will spike insulin quicker than most fruits will, which can mess with you a bit and encourage storage of fat.
