Do you mean pots + pans? If so, you don't need much. One decent sized skillet (not teflon), one saucepan (1-2 qt) and one large pot for boiling water (pasta) is really all you absolutely need. Obviously, more items will give you more flexibility. If you are only going to spend on one item, get a better skillet (heavy). This is the most important one.
