It's not the 5 bucks, it's the 30 to 40 minutes wasted that he could be playing.
The MGM poker room is about the only one with a snack bar right next door. Most of them are a trek, and it's overpriced when you find it.

It's not a 30-40 minute walk to Bellagio from MGM. Please. Besides, the Monorail drops you off at the back of Paris/Ballys so you're still doing a walk.
