I think lateral raises are fine (when done 30 degrees in front of the body, and with the elbows never going above the shoulders), but the thing about them is most people are way ahead in their anterior deltoid development compared to the rest of the shoulder, so isolating & bombing that particular part of the shoulder makes absolutely no sense.
