It's pretty much all read-dependent (and by read-dependent, I mean something more refined than just "loose-passive" because some loose-passives come out betting with a flush while others will check-raise and another group will check-call then donk the river). If you have a good read on how your opponents play flushes, then bet-fold is definitely an option, but it shouldn't be your default play.
When I'm not sure of how my opponents play, I often am willing to miss an occasional bet to guarantee a showdown so that I gain information that I can exploit later.
