I don't like this idea. She'll probably just think that the friend was being a jerk and by rushing to her defense the OP would perpetuate the idea to her that nothing is wrong. After all, she will probably think to herself that if she really did smell bad, that one of her friends/coworkers/people she sees often would have told her by now. Chances are she can't smell her own stink.
