I think an apparently incorrect call that ends the game does in fact qualify as "costing you the game." Yes the Padres had many other chances on previous days to get into the playoffs. However, just because they could not capitalize on those chances does not mean they should not be complaining about a bad call that keeps them out of the playoffs.
