Default Gym and Uni

Is it possible? I really want to lose some weight and put on alot of muscle over the next year, but im currently at uni where I am drinking (lots) about an average of 3-4 times a week. Is there any point in even going to the gym trying to lose weight?

i know its better than nothing, but what results should i be expecting?
