The whole thing could turn into a nice little symbolic media event. The Navy presents a check (possibly for less than 600K) to some Jewish charities and the Holocaust museum. And the building itself gets some kind of plaque commemorating "rational remembrance". Or something along those lines.

I dunno about that. It seems too much like a payoff for offending Jews, and that will just turn into a big free for all if you think about all the other things that govt might have done to offend various groups. And the party receiving the check would look like race hustlers, similar to Jesse Jackson.

The assumption was made that the money was about to be spent anyway. And you can forget the part about asking for it to go to a Jewish charity rather than some other charity. I only suggested that if the Navy felt like it should be a gesture toward specifically Jews. ANY useful purpose is better than shrubs.
