i've studied both and always prefer a full table but i will sit at a shorthanded game. lately most of the success has come from a full game that goes shorthanded for a time...i believe i can adjust my strategy a little quicker than my opponents realize
with full ring i usually play for the big hand all-in pot...but in shorthanded, i grind away with blind steals and re-steals on the flop/turn
play both and study both as that full ring game will go shorthanded often
