I guess it depends on table dynamics. Does he know you 3-bet light in the BB? Have you been 3-betting him at all in the session? Could he be tilting? Have you seen him 4-bet before? Has he ever gotten out of line when making big bets?
Stats are stats, I've seen nitty players make the strangest plays you wouldn't believe. 3-betting me with 95s or pushing preflop with KJo. It happens and you just have to know when your opponent is off his game.
So like others said, you probably know better than us if folding was correct. NH.
