Typically, from my experience, if you screw up a password once or twice a day on website xyz, nothing happens. So, if this is the case with Stars, the hacker could have just spread the attempts over a few months.

True, and this is something I hadn't thought of.

The only reason I doubt they have this is because we use the same name to login as we do to play. So I think if there were a feature like that we'd see a lot of trouble with locked accounts. Imagine how juicy you could make your games by getting all the regs' accounts locked.
