So how does that fit with the "american male" having been "reduced to having to lift up his own toilet seat"? Isn't it a case of the european male being restricted from lifting his own toilet seat?

I have to say I feel pretty stupid here, so I appologise if I'm just having some reading comprehesnion brain snap.

And for the record, I don't know of those good old days either, it was just my best shot at a potential explanation for the quote.
