These questions are tough to answer, because of their relative and subjective nature. FWIW, here's a few thoughts:
1. Avoid making major decisions when you're in duress. People will often change one part of their life in a dramatic way when experiencing a negative part elsewhere. Unhappy at home, person quits job etc.
2. If you're fortunate enough to have a passion, pursue it.
3. Do not pursue a passion for the results. Particularly true if your passion is in a lottery field (arts, entertainment, etc.
4. If you are a person who evolves/grows/changes over time, you will be disappointed moving back home to your childhood friends.
5. Quality of life>material possessions.
