Default Re: God help me, roommate drama advice wanted

Just picking a blind roommate and not finding out what their lifestyle is like is just dumb.

How are you supposed to do this? Stalk them for a week? Ask to move in for three days just to see if they're a whack-job? If you have no common friends you go with you gut and hope for the best.

Would your gut tell you to room with someone who works a graveyard shift and is awake 100% of the time you're sleeping? Come on. A simple "oh hey, what do you do for your job/living/income?" is a pretty standard question when you speak with a person before you move in. This can follow up and lead to questions about weekend hobbies and such. It's not that hard to come across in normal conversation.

Whatever.

Apparently I'm the only one that doesn't blindly select a roommate without knowing anything about the person.

Al: I totally get that it could be livable, but I think you overestimate the amount of normal people that live in this world. Having a person who works late nights like that would just send red flags all over the place for me. I know that this is an extreme case, but assuming that this person worked the same hours as OP, even if they were obnoxious about TV/stereo/drugs while he was home in the evening/afternoon it would be infinitely more bearable.
