You bet half the pot and my guess is he's heard that a half-pot bluffs only needs to work out one time in three to be +EV. He ain't having any of that so he doubles your raise to show he can't be pushed around!

I'd call and not be surprised to see anything up to and including 44. But then I loose all my money that way.
