There are multiple endings and the one that Gilliam wanted was not the one that made it into the theaters. The studio basically told Gilliam to [censored] off and edited the movie down to under 2 hours and gave it a more "acceptable" ending.
Others:
Try to find pictures that are from the movie, but didn't make it onto posters, ads or DVD covers.
