he's drinking more than you. maybe not on average, but in a given night, and i think liquor is harder on the body than beer, just my experience though. he's also trying to lose weight, which is very difficult to do while drinking liquor, as it is a ton of calories, eats muscle and destroys your metabolism....other than that his diet looks great and i wish him the best of luck.
edit: from everything i've read, i'm pretty sure a bucket of lard would allow you to reach your goals faster than alcohol

You're backward on the liquor/beer thing. Liquor has less calories in addition the light/dark thing is pretty much meh (not that you said this, but its an ongoing myth).

The alcohol has the calories. And the deleterious effects on your body. Getting drunk is probably 90% of the problem.
My general feelings on the bottle are pretty similar to diet ice cream. If you're gonna do it, do it right. Unless you're drinking like Mudslides and wanna move to scotch/sode in which case you can cut a lot of cals and reclaim some semblance of dignity.
