I can probably help you out. But it would be helpful to know in what kind of surroundings the widget will be featured to find a suitable design. If the background color will vary depending on user-defined skins it will be impossible to make it BOTH transparent and smooth without adding several images with different mattes for the various skins. It will also require CSS customization.
