I think a CB there is fine. After he checks both the turn and river i'd not be suprised if he was holding something like a Jack or a low pocket pair, possibly a queen with a weak kicker. If you've got reads that he's a tightwad that wont call a bet on the river you could try representing the ace I guess. If you're not sure then I think checking behind is fine.
