He attempted to detain you against your will and then threatened you. It's not wise for you to try to interpret the meaning and seriousness of his threat, or the lengths he may go to fulfill it. I would file a police report regardless of how you otherwise decide to handle this with her. Even if nothing comes of it right now, it does no harm to file the report.
I would not speak to or otherwise engage him. If he ever somehow decides to cause you harm, the police will at least have knowledge of this incident.
