"What I find strange is the way some of you guys try to justify it. Henry17 says “There is no reason to assume the player might not have folded anyway”, “something I see once or twice a week” and costing “$4 per email”. What has any of that got to do with it?"

Well if he would have folded anyway then the outcome would have been exactly the same. While a rule was broken there is no way to determine that the violation actually caused the outcome.
