everybody always says this but it sounds like so much hassle to learn to drive stick. is it really a crime to get a nice car w/ automatic?

Driving a sports car with automatic is a huge waste of the car's potential. Sure it will go fast and look pretty, but if you really want to enjoy it the most you need to drive manual.
It's sort of like going to a really nice restaurant and ordering filet mignon extra well done. Yeah it's gonna taste good, but not as good as if you got it medium rare.
