I dunno, i think the chance of a 42/27 at 100nl being competent post flop is exactly zero. It's more likely that he has been making good plays inadvertently rather than actually understanding what he is doing and why he is doing it.

I think a 42/27 will fire all 3 streets w/ top pair decent kicker, so you played it fine. There's no reason to bet and slow villain down when he will do the betting for you.

Of course, sometimes he's going to have you crushed, and you will feel like a station. However, i think you will be ahead way more often than you are behind.
