ALL of one's friends come from a crapshoot in the same fashion. By this rationale, we shouldn't necessarily like or have much in common with them, either. To say that there is no real love is most certainly cynical.

I think there's a kernel of truth to your original statement, which is that most guys I know don't seem to care much if the girls they hang out with are actually cool or not. The expectations for what a girl is supposed to be able to provide in terms of conversation and interest are quite a bit lower. I think it's an unfortunate way of viewing things, but there it is. So, if you're one of those guys, it's unsurprising that you're not going to be that excited about your girl's friends because they don't have the added draw that your girlfriend does.
