The Great Influenza: The Epic Story of the Deadlient Plague In History
John M. Barry
This is a must-read. Not only a history of the 1918 influenza, but also of WWI and the development of medicine in the US. The science is detailed enough without becoming too technical. After the introductory chapters, this is impossible to put down. A historical horror story. Stephen King never came up with anything this scary.
