Poker players generally know that you have to protect your hand. I've heard people say things like "take it" when they are sure that they lost but their cards are still live. If your opponent has live cards and you don't, technically you can't win. I don't really think that the young guy was trying to cheat, cause common sense tells you to hold on to your cards until the pot is shipped to you. I think the floor man should have taken into consideration the fact that there was some mis-communication, and if the cards were clearly separated from the muck and indeed the winning hand, he should have given it to the old guy. Just my thoughts.
