Honda has been building some very solid, safe and reliable cars for many years now. The public finally noticed this, therefore their resale value is through the roof.
Hyundai has been improving their cars a ton in the last several years, but before that they were pretty bad, so they don't have the reputation (and high resale value) yet. You could use this to your advantage if you buy a slightly used car, but it would be a big disadvantage if you're buying new. I don't think they're quite on par with Honda yet, but their cars from the last couple years are at least worth a look now.
