I recommend King Yaos book alot especially if you lack the basics. Handicapping is not about picking Winners but finding valuable situations. If you are going for the approach you described in your post concentrating on the 4 best teams in eredivisie you are most likely going to lose in the longrun because these lines will be tough to beat most of the time.

Id like to give you an example(hidden brag ;-)) for a recent soccer bet i made. Bayern Munich wich have a killer Team these season had a tough 120min cup game. The day after they had a friendly against Rcd Mallorca with the start of the season only 4 days away it was impossible they would put up a decent Team risking injuries to their top players. The line startet -0.25 -0.5 @ -110 for Mallorca. Before the bookies put up their line try to make your own line with the information you have and see if you can find an advantage .
