He just calls your 3rd street raise on the end because he realizes he only has one Ace left and only two 3s left. He bets out on 4th to see if the 4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] helped you and when you raise he figures it did and that you must be on a spade flush draw. Therefore, when you apparently brick on 5th street, he decides to take one last chance to push you off your spade flush draw by check-raising you (presumably to represent As over or even trip 7s). When you reraise him, he immediately reevaluates and concludes you're a lot stronger than a flush draw. When you catch one of his outs on 6th street he folds.
The only other possible explanation that makes any sense to me is that his wife knocked on the door.
