Caesars

My wife and I were at Caesars last night (saturday) and they had a 1/2/5 PLO spread. For normal limit holdem they had one table each of 4/8 and a 10/20 with full kill. They had multiple tables of 1/2NL and a couple of 2/5. They also got a 30/60 Stud game going. They had an interest list for 5/10NL but never could get it started (by contrast the saturday night's I've been at Argosy they always seem to have 5/10NL going).

They had a bunch of tables of the screwy 2-4-4-8 holdem as their lowest limit game. We played several hours of that and finished up $60 or so between us. This game will definitely not draw me back to caesars even though I'm confident I could continue to beat it -- I was much more comfortable back at the normal limit games we hit today on the way back.

The buffet had a decent selection and the food was good but nothing all that spectacular.

To get to the casino you wind up on a narrow two lane road that is torn up at the moment for a resurfacing project.

Belterra:

On the way back to Ohio this morning we hit belterra and the $65 11:00am tourney. I busted out second about 1 orbit in (set of 10's to set of A's :-( ).

Made $40 playing 2/4 waiting for my wife. Really annoying game with literally everyone else on the table seeing the flop with any 2 cards. It's been like that every time I've played it. They had two tables of that 2/4 crap and one 1/2NL going when we left about 2:00.

I don't know what kind of games they manage to spread in the evenings -- we usually just hit the morning tournies and play for a while afterwards. I do like that the room is separate from the casino which reduces noise.

The casino and hotel complex all seem to be really new / clean, etc. I've also always had decent meals at the buffet and today was particularly good (crab legs and prime rib :-) ).

I think the minimum age for working the belterra customer rewards desk is 95 and you have to be female. There always seems to be a long line just because they are so danged slow.

Argosy

I couldn't stand any more of that 2/4 game so after lunch we drove along the river up to Argosy. There we spent about 4 hours playing 3/6 and again finished up a little bit. The game was still really loose but at least 3 or 4 people on the table seemed to have a basic idea how to play so it wasn't too bad.

This afternoon Argosy was running a bunch of tables of 1/3NL and 2 2/5NL tables, a 5/10 limit with full kill and 4 3/6 tables. I've been there several times on saturday nights when they have a 5/10NL going -- I'm pretty sure there is usually an omaha game of some sort going on saturdays but I don't pay as much attention to that. I also saw a 6/12 limit holdem game one saturday night.

The first (and probably last) time we ate at the Argosy buffet I was less than impressed. I agree it was worse than golden corral.

Comparisons

From my observations (for what they are worth given I'm a lower limit player) it's sort of a tossup between Argosy and Caesars for anything but the lowest limit and for NL. Whichever one is closer is probably good enough. If you want lowest limit action stick to Argosy where they run a normal game. If you need a higher limit game like 10/20 or something like Stud then go to Caesars.

Note I've never really had an issue with any of the dealers in the games I play at any of these casinos (but as a low limit player I get to see them handling their easiest games both technically and in terms of player stress).
