If you had history with this villain, then you can fold this.
Without history, this play has to be looked up. You're not sure what he's doing. You'll get information what he check/raises when he should be leading and what he's 3betting you with preflop.
BTW, if he is checking with a big hand, I would say he's more likely to check/call rather than check raise.
