Basically, if your doorcard is a ten, you should only play if you have wired aces, rolled up tens (trips), or a live straight flush draw. A hand like T43 suited may be playable if you're closing the action in a multiway pot if your cards are live, but I'd much rather have the ten in the hole.
Basically, in stud 8 you want three good low cards, the best high hand, or a hand with a strong chance to scoop a big pot.
