I can't speak for this firm, but I know of two BigLaw firms who DEFINITELY kick the attorneys out early on reception days. Good move on their part. Law firm receptions are the bomb. It's funny, though, that (at least at my law school) they are "1L Receptions," and they get a HUGE turnout (especially for the "big" firms), yet such a small percentage of those who attend actually have a chance.
