Nothing deep... Think of a hand in terms of equity on each street, and try to get the maximum money in when you have an equity advantage.

There was a pooh-bah post recently in MSNL, which talked about the idea that sometimes it was better to turn your hand into a bluff and take down a pot when you likely have the best hand, such as A7 on a 732 board, rather than letting other scare cards come off that may take away your ability to play the hand.....

It seems like this is at odds with much of what we are told with respect to Pot-size ideas, but what do you feel about this??

Not sure what you mean by 'what we are told wrt pot sizes'. But raising in this spot is mainly for protection and to avoid making a future mistake, so it is not a bad play. Also, it is better to sometimes raise these types of hands so that calling on the flop (or raising) doesn't define your hand range so clearly.
