OP, dunno about your state, but the NYPD gives a "second chance" to previous felons. I don't remember the details, but because no one wanted the [censored] paying job (25k-40k your first 4 yrs of duty) they started taking in people w/ records.
As far as the rehab for your image, last I knew those records were sealed especially if you were a minor at the time, and I doubt the cops have some CIA type clearance doing a routine background investigation.
If you're clean now and otherwise qualified, quit worrying. They take in a lot more scumbags with more baggage than you.
