Re: Why do ambulances/cops/firemen do this?
This was written about in the NY Times, 6/16/07. "An Earsplitting Symphony With the Maestro in Blue."
Partially it's to get the attention of drivers. It's also partially so that other emergency vehicles can hear each other when they have their sirens on.
