It just looks so much like the usual power politic. Doesn't mean it has no spiritual validity but it does mean that its useless as a defense of any other claim.
Using unbroken line type arguments to bolster catholic claims to being correct is plain nonsense unless first they give the disenter good reason to believe the unbroken line claim in the first place.
There's two problem with the unbroken line argument:
1. X is supported by an unbroken line
2. unbroken lines bear truth
---
X is likely to be true
Not only is 1) extremely questionable but 2) is dodgy as well as a long game of chinese whispers is an unbroken line but is unlikely to bear truth.
