I think Dmitri Martin has fallen way off and sucks now. See his reports on John Stuart on hookas, very subpar.
He seems to be copying mitch hedgeberg, but he is much weaker.
My favorite comedian is Rodney Dangerfield I would think. I like Jerry Seinfeld/larry david as standups despite the fact that they don't have that well oiled routine and sometimes make jokes that don't work I think they definitely try hard and come up with a lot of funny ideas.
Also, there are a million unkowns with very strong routines as seen on Comedy Central's 30 minute stand up specials. Alot of these comedy central unknowns are way funnier than Richard Prior ever was (I know some would disagree, but RP was never funny in anything i saw him).
