Does anyone else think a fundamental realignment, like that of the '60s is coming to the American political parties? I think the realignment is going to focus on globalization and the response to it. Protectionist, isolationist (not meant to be used as pejoratives) radicals like Seehan on one side; more benign Democratic paternalists (like Bloomberg on NY) on the other, somehow aligning itself with the Guiliani side of the right. This is incomplete, I have no idea where the social conservatives would go. It just seems to the me the Democratic party is too lumbering, huge, and composed far too disparate interests to function as a platform anymore. Michael Moore correctly blasts Hillary Clinton in Sicko as just more of the same type of conservative politician. I think the fringe movements on both parties are agitating for greater and greater changes.
