supposedly, part of the reason Osama went over the edge was that:

1. Sanctions in Iraq were killing hundreds of thousands of children
2. Us was supporting israel and in 1996 Irael bombed a refugee camp which had zero military value killing more than 100 people

As for what countries we were occupying, a better question would be: which countries does the US NOT have troops in? We have troops in more than 50% of the countries in the world, and a military budget bigger than the rest of the UN security counsel combined.
