I haven't been to the WSOP so far this year, but judging from previous years, it dies down a ton in the middle of the series, then jumps back up right before the main event. You can register online if you do it two weeks prior to the starting day of your event. Otherwise you gotta buy in at the cage. If you're buying in for something other than NL Hold'em too, you'll probably be fine. If it's a $1500 NL event, might be pretty busy. Hope that helps.
