This is a good move if you had AQ, KK, AA (no club) as you can then check behind on the river. It saves you money when you're beat, increases the pot when you're ahead, charges him more when he's drawing (to nut flush), and makes it hard for him to bluff you off your hand.
However, with AcQx, KcKx, AcAx, and any set, you're betting off just calling and hoping to improve by the river otherwise if you're re-raised it can get expensive for you.
