Well, if Villain has J9, he certainly isn't slowplaying it.

Probably I 3-bet the flop and take my chances, but the fact that Villain is so drastically abandoning his passive play of the past 62 hands would have me worried, I'll admit. I mean, if he had to have a straight, set, or two pair to do this, you'd actually be a dog. (Straights + sets are 21 combos, whereas Q8/T8 is only 15 combos.) Fortunately, though, it's entirely possible he just has a queen or maybe 8cXc or possibly even a hand like JT. And, also, one thing that does help you here is that only one straight is possible (if, for instance, the flop was QJT and three straights were possible, that would be 48 combos instead of 16).

In any case, once he checked the river behind, my fear of J9 would go away and I'd be expecting to win [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img].
