fwiw, i've been having a pretty tough time lately getting anybody to play me at a HU table, even players that i'm pretty sure i've never played or have had limited experience against. possibly due to datamining?

Do you really want to play them? I mean no matter how good you are you're unlikely to have that large an advantage over someone that hands enough hands on you and enough knowledge to know they don't want to play you.
