Well you said most efficient way to try to double it "safely". If you want to do it in BJ you're going to spend months learning to count and with a $1000 I'm not sure how "safe" it would be even with counting as it's pretty high variance even with the small edge players get by counting. I'd say the easiest way would be to grind it out in a small stakes hold em game. You could do a limited amount of study and buy into a 2/4 limit game and easily beat it (yes that includes beating the rake, the players are that bad) but it'll take you a long time. However, $1000 is 250 BB for that game so it'd be pretty safe that you wouldn't bust if you were even moderately successful. I don't play NL but I would think the same would apply for the smallest NL games.
