Default Re: Poker in Sacramento

[ QUOTE ]
I've lived in the Sac area for about 12 years now, and have hit just about every card room in a 200 mi. radius. As far as NL goes in the Sac area, there are a few options. More than what there were a few years ago.

First thing to mention, is that in the County of Sacramento, there are different levels (read: versions) of "No Limit" and this is also based on which city you are in. Most games are technically "spread limit" but essentially play like a NL game does. Once you are out of Sac. county, true NL can be found.

From Sac, in driving distance, those worth playing and those to pass on.

In and around the Sacramento area, these are what come to mind.

(I hang out at tworags quite a bit, so have done reviews on the rooms below (links referenced to reviews) which may be of add'l info. (no association to www.tworags.com other than a user / contributor to the site / ruthless poker degenerate / etc.))

Those games to pass on:
Folsom Lake Bowl (Folsom) Don't waste your time. Electronic tables, poorly run room.

Those to play or worth a visit:
Deuces Wild (Auburn)
Likely the best card room in N. California, and spreads several NL games, from 2/3, 5/10, and 10/25. This is by far my favorite room in the area.

The Limelight (Downtown)
1/2 S-NL (Max 1,000 bet)

Lucky Derby (Citrus Heights)
2/5 and 5/10 NL. Technically spread limit, but plays as NL.

Jackson Rancheria (Jackson)
1/2NL 2/5NL and 3/5NL with interest.

Black Sheep Casino (Cameron Park)
2/3NL game. Small room, but decent action on the right nights.

Happy Flops!

*edit*
Regarding the team play that others referred to at the LD and the Cap, yes it does exist. I've seen it myself and have heard quite a bit about it at LD in their NL game. I have not heard of teams playing at Cap. I'll be interested in hearing first hand experiences from others as well, should they share it.

Quads pretty much nailed the main ones. The Phoenix now spreads a super soft NL game.

NL in the Sacramento area sucks... nothing gives you 100BB.
Deuces is full of sharks at the larger buy-ins.

Derby now spreads 50BB games as opposed to 40BB.

Phoenix has a $1/$2 $200 max buy game.
