Well, if something is difficult to play, the chance of playing it wrong is greater. If something is easy to play, you'll more likely make the right decisions. Making the right decisions is what poker is about, and by gaining information you improve your abilities of making the best decisions.

Also, raising on flop is cheaper than calling turn and river bet if you're beat (of course you fold to a re-raise), and you avoid being sucked out.

Therefore I really can't see why it's not right to raise when you don't know where your hand stands.
