Correct. It's not a "deposit". You are prepaying your entire entrance fee. And I thus don't understand why people do it. You're giving Harrah's your money weeks in advance and you gain nothing from it. Indeed, as is being demonstrated by OP, you can end up suffering because of it if your plans change or you get sick. Long as you tell 'em prior to the tourney start, you can get it back (in theory), but it's always going to be annoying and Harrah's has no reason at all to worry about hurrying and every reason to be slow to make refunds.
Just get a money diaper and sit on your cash on the plane trip out.
