I just got a puppy too, black lab/aussie mix. She's about 11 weeks and still [censored] etc everywhere -- definitely get a crate for crate training. Though, according to a family friend who trains and breeds dogs, right around 12 weeks is when a puppy starts to realize that they can actually hold on to their piss and [censored] and don't have to immediately drop it.
